Sizing & light basics

Choose the place.
Then check the lamp.

A few practical checks for a desk, bedside, sofa or living-room corner. These are placement suggestions, not specifications for a particular product.

On a desk or bedside

Start by measuring the surface you can spare. Keep space for the things that already belong there: a book, a keyboard, a glass of water.

  • Check the lamp's overall width as well as its base. A shade can project beyond the footprint.
  • Think about where the light needs to fall when you sit or lie down.
  • Check that the switch will be easy to reach from your usual position.
  • Plan a cable route to the socket without pulling the lamp towards the edge.

Beside the sofa

Look at the space around the sofa, not just the gap beside it. Leave the walkway clear and allow for the full width of the shade.

  • Place a floor lamp on a level surface away from busy routes.
  • Check the base dimensions and the overall height before ordering.
  • Keep cables clear of feet, furniture movement, children and pets.
  • Follow the supplied instructions for assembly and safe placement.

Bulbs and compatibility

Fittings, bulb requirements and whether a bulb is included depend on the particular lamp. Do not infer compatibility from a photograph.

Check the product information first.
If a fitting, bulb limit, dimension or switch detail is not stated, contact us to confirm before ordering.

Before ordering

  • Measure the available surface or floor area.
  • Check the exact product dimensions and socket reach.
  • Confirm bulb compatibility and what is included.
  • Review the delivery and return information for your order.

Room light and screen settings can affect how a colour appears in a photograph. Ask about any finish detail that matters to your choice.
